Animé par Samuel Nepton, Ph. D., chargé d’enseignement à la Faculté de philosophie de l’Université Laval, l’événement se déroulera le mercredi 5 novembre, de 15 h 30 à 16 h 30, à l’Université Laval (pavillon Félix-Antoine-Savard, salle FAS-413), avec possibilité d’assister aux échanges sur Zoom. « This presentation explores the question: How might we read our history in ethical terms—as an affirmative educational ethics? In response, I examine distinctions between morality and ethics, and between schooling aims such as qualification, socialization, and subjectification. Drawing on the work of Badiou, Arendt, and key historiographers, I consider the ethics of the future anterior—a temporal framing essential to ethical educational work, grounded in a commitment to a future in which “this will have been true.” Through this inquiry, I aim to provoke dialogue around what might constitute an ethics equal to the demands of the past—one that honors our capacity to re-cognize the present and affirms an imaginative, generative humane potential oriented toward preferable rather than merely probable social futures. »
Présentation de l’invité
Kent den Heyer works at the intersection of history and social studies education, curriculum theory, and educational philosophy. Committed to psychoanalytical approaches to anti-racist education, his scholarship appears in international journals, handbooks, and in Canada’s nationally distributed newspapers. He was the first Ph.D. student in UBC’s ‘Centre for the Study of Historical Consciousness’ after teaching a range of subjects and grades in Canada, Japan, Taiwan and Colombia. den Heyer has taught prospective social studies teachers in Canada and the United States and currently professes in the former Dept. of Secondary Education, University of Alberta.
